The Complete Guide to Body Exfoliation for Pakistani Women
Share
Body exfoliation is one of the most underrated steps in any skincare routine — especially in Pakistan, where heat, humidity, and sun exposure accelerate dead skin buildup. This guide covers everything you need to know to exfoliate correctly and safely.
Why Pakistani Skin Needs Regular Exfoliation
Pakistan's climate creates specific skin challenges. Hot summers cause excessive sweating, which combines with dead skin cells to block pores and cause body acne — particularly on the back, chest, and arms. The dry winters leave skin feeling rough and ashy. Year-round sun exposure causes uneven pigmentation that dead skin buildup makes worse.
Regular exfoliation addresses all of these issues by keeping the skin surface clear, allowing moisturisers to absorb properly, and improving the skin's natural glow.
How Often Should You Exfoliate
The ideal frequency depends on your skin type. For normal to oily skin, once a week is ideal. For dry or sensitive skin, every 10 to 14 days is safer. For skin with active acne or irritation, wait until the flare-up has calmed before exfoliating.
Over-exfoliating is a real concern. If you exfoliate too frequently, you strip the skin's protective barrier, causing redness, sensitivity, and even more dryness. Once a week with a Korean mitt is the sweet spot for most skin types.
Physical vs Chemical Exfoliation
There are two categories of exfoliation. Physical exfoliation uses a tool or texture to manually remove dead skin — such as a Korean mitt, scrub, or brush. Chemical exfoliation uses acids like AHAs and BHAs to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells.
For body skin, physical exfoliation with a Korean mitt is generally more effective and accessible. Chemical exfoliants are better suited to the face, where the skin is thinner and more delicate.
The Right Technique
The most common mistake is exfoliating dry skin on a short shower. This does not work. Your skin needs to be fully softened before physical exfoliation can be effective.
Soak in warm water for at least 10 minutes before using your mitt. The warm water opens your pores and softens the dead cell layer, making it much easier to remove. Apply the dry mitt to your wet skin — no soap — and use long, firm strokes moving toward your heart. This also stimulates circulation, which gives skin a healthy flush.
Areas That Need Extra Attention
Elbows and knees accumulate dead skin faster than any other body part due to friction. Give these areas a few extra passes with your mitt. The back is another area many women neglect because it is hard to reach — this is where the back strap in the RUBBA bundle becomes essential.
Heels are also prone to thick dead skin buildup, especially in women who wear flat shoes or sandals. Regular exfoliation keeps feet smooth and prevents painful cracking.
What to Do After Exfoliating
The 60 seconds immediately after rinsing off are the most important for moisturisation. Your skin is now fresh, with no dead cell barrier — moisturiser will absorb deeply and effectively. Apply your body lotion while your skin is still slightly damp to lock in moisture.
Avoid direct sun exposure for 24 hours after exfoliating, as freshly exfoliated skin is more sensitive to UV damage. If you must go out, apply SPF.
Building Your Weekly Routine
A simple weekly body care routine takes less than 20 minutes total. Exfoliate on a Sunday evening — soak for 10 to 15 minutes, scrub with your RUBBA mitt, rinse, and moisturise. The glow lasts through most of the week. Repeat the following Sunday.
That is all it takes. No complicated routines. No expensive products. Just consistency with the right tool.
